Phew, we’ve all been sweating quite a bit here on the island for the past two weeks! A heat wave, the likes of which has never been recorded, had the whole of Mallorca completely under control and even during the night one could not really look forward to a cool down. That was a new experience even for Mallorca!
The two-week heat wave is over!
The summer on Mallorca stands for a lot of sun and of course higher temperatures than we are all used to from the German summer. That’s quite normal so far. Heat waves with temperatures sometimes exceeding 40°C are not uncommon here on the island. What was anything but normal, however, was the length of the last heat wave, which gave us all quite a hard time. At two weeks, it was more than twice as long as the longest recorded heat wave of six days.
A heat wave occurs when temperatures exceed 36° for several consecutive days – this is the mark at which a heat warning is issued. Especially in summer it always comes for two, three or even four days. But there has never been a 13-day heat wave like we’re having now! And while some vacationers are happy about that and enjoy the days on the beach, for those who live and work on the island, it is of course far more exhausting to deal with such temperatures.
The sea offers relaxation
When the heat is almost unbearable, the sea always offers refreshment and therefore relaxation. There is almost always a light breeze and even if the water temperature is higher than usual, a dip in the waves is still a great way to escape the heat for a moment. And if the beach is not nearby? Then the great Marina art prints by Frank Krüger are a great alternative to simply dreaming of the sea.
Whether art prints from Cala Agulla, Cala Gat, Cala Pi or different prints with Llauts as a motif – the variety is great and Frank has often been inspired by the island and the sea.
