Banksy is not only known to art lovers – even though nobody knows who this artist really is! His street art, which is unmistakable, is now known all over the world, but very little is known about the people behind it. And maybe that’s what makes Banksy’s art so special – but it’s also just fun to explore and experience in an exhibition!
Banksy exhibition in Vienna
The artist Frank Krüger and his family recently went on a city trip to Vienna – and took the opportunity to visit a Banksy exhibition. Banksy is internationally known for his street art, which not only his fans recognize at first glance. The subject of his art is often political and economic aspects, which he sometimes brings to the fore with a new depiction of well-known motifs. The first self-organized or rather staged exhibitions by Banksy were at the end of the 90s – and since then the artist has become better known and more popular every year.
Initially found only in Bristol and London, stencil graffiti has now seen Banksy’s work appear all over the world. Whether it’s Mexico, Israel or the Ukraine – Banksy’s art is everywhere, inspires people and points to current issues that concern us all. In the exhibition in Vienna, Frank and family were able to see and above all experience many of the well-known motifs, because the art installations invite you to become a part of them.
Who is Banksy?
As his street art became more and more popular, more and more people asked themselves: who is Banksy? Who is behind the pseudonym and the eye-catching artworks? This is actually still a mystery to this day that has not been fully resolved. Some believe they recognize a Bristol artist behind the work, others are certain that a woman is at work here, and still others suspect a collective of different artists behind the name.
Whether Banksy just wants to protect himself or is simply doing brilliant marketing is just as unknown. What is certain, however, is that he is always committed to different things and wants to make the world a better place. For example, he donated a sea rescue ship that helps refugees in the Mediterranean. In a Southampton hospital during the early days of the Covid19 pandemic, he portrayed a nurse as a superhero. And many more similar examples can be found in recent years.
Visiting the exhibition was definitely a lot of fun!
