The artwork “BELLA VISTA” by Frank Krüger is one of the first surrealist pictures that the artist painted. Frank originally comes from a big city himself and therefore he didn’t always have the fantastic view of the sea. He processes this fact in this work and focuses on wanderlust. In addition, Frank expresses his love for Mallorca, the beautiful Mediterranean island.
BELLA VISTA
You can see a well-dressed man on a bench. On the right and left are illustrated volumes from Mallorca. One picture volume is still open in front of him on the floor and shows the page “Imagenes de felicidad” – pictures of happiness. He enjoys the moment he has created for himself with a glass of red wine. He’s dressed extra nicely to celebrate this solemn moment.
In contrast, he previously had the prospect of chimneys, blast furnaces, smoking chimneys and a yellow-grey sky. He was tired of it!
Wanderlust
He dreamed of Mallorca and took a hammer and pickaxe. He punched a huge hole in the wall to finally be able to live out the distant view and his wanderlust. Now he sees there a beautiful Majorcan bay with boats in the water, in a small harbour. His eyes delight in old Majorcan fishermen’s houses, pine trees and rocks. He celebrates this moment that he dreamed of by looking at the picture book. He has realised his wish!
Many people have a desire for beauty, for a view of nature and the sea. This artwork shows that everyone can make this wish come true. Hence the title “BELLA VISTA” – the beautiful view! Above all, Frank expresses his longing for the paradises of this world.
