For many fans of Cala Ratjada, the vacation is not a vacation if they have not visited the lighthouse at least once. “El Faro” not only offers a great motif for photos, but also a breathtaking view of the sea and, with a good view, of the neighboring island of Menorca. The lighthouse is a popular destination – and for the artist Frank Krüger, of course, it is also a beautiful motif for a work of art!

A motif like from a picture book

When the sun makes the white building of the lighthouse shine and it stands out against the deep blue sky, the picture that then presents itself couldn’t be more beautiful. If you have not seen it yourself, you will often think that the artwork “El Faro” by Frank Krüger is a fictional motif. It’s just really almost too good to be true.

With the painting “El Faro”, which is available as an art print in various versions in the online shop, Frank has perfectly captured the view of the lighthouse when you come up the road to the mountain. The wall that meanders to the lighthouse, the white building with all its details and the outbuilding made of natural stone and the sea and the sky in the background – all of this shows the popular excursion destination in all its beauty. So it is not really surprising that the art print is often ordered and is not only at the top of the wish list for fans of Cala Ratjada or Mallorca in general.

The lighthouse – “El Faro”

The white tower of the lighthouse rises about 21 meters high on the approx. 55 meter high rock and is a fixed point not only for ships, but also for the residents and visitors of Cala Ratjada. There are a total of 15 lighthouses on the coasts of Mallorca, just five are still active and “El Faro” in Cala Ratjada is one of them. The lighthouse has been in operation since 1869 and it was not until the late sixties of the last century that manual operation was switched to electrical signals.

Although the lighthouse cannot be visited due to its activity, it has been a tourist magnet for many years. Whether as a destination for a short hike or a vantage point for the sunrise or sunset – “El Faro” has a lot to offer and attracts visitors in every season. However, it is not only the holidaymakers who love the lighthouse and like to visit it, the residents of Cala Ratjada also like to stop by their “El Faro” and enjoy the view from there!
