And suddenly everything is quiet! Where yesterday in front of the restaurants the waiters addressed tourists and shopkeepers presented their goods in bright light, the doors are now locked, the windows partially taped shut and it feels like the island has gone into hibernation overnight. It’s the end of the season! Now things are much quieter in the towns – but that too has its charm!
End of the season in Mallorca
“This year we’re extending the season!” This saying occurs every year and especially in 2021, when the economy could use a few additional days or weeks with the tourists due to Corona, it could be read and heard again everywhere. But this year too, the words were not followed by deeds. October 31 was the deadline for many and shops, restaurants and hotels were closed. Many a place that lives almost exclusively from tourism now appears almost as a ghost town. But also in Cala Ratjada, where there are still many Mallorcans and residents who spend the whole year or preferably the winter here, it has become quieter.
When walking along the Paseo, you can only see a few restaurants that are open and many shops in the shopping mile are also closed. It has become quieter and where a short time ago many tourists enjoyed their vacation and celebrated the days, you now mostly only meet dog owners walking their four-legged friends. For some, this silence seems a little oppressive at first, but for others, a completely different Cala Ratjada is now showing up, which definitely has its charm. Everything is slowed down, people are more relaxed and often very mild temperatures invite you to explore the area on foot or by bike.
We are still there!
Of course we also feel the end of the season and that there are fewer people on the island. Things are still a bit livelier in Palma, there a lot is open all year round and our gallery in the beautiful old town is also open for you as usual in the winter season. In Artà we keep the current opening times and are there for you every Tuesday, i.e. always on market day, and look forward to your visit.
Only in Cala Ratjada has things changed. While we were previously open for you every day except Sunday, we are now here for you on market day, i.e. Saturday. It’s only a few steps from the market to us and a visit to the Galeria with a glass of cava is the perfect way to end the visit to the market, right?
