When Frank Krüger renovated his new gallery in Cala Ratjada in the summer of 2021, his logo already announced what was happening in the rooms – but the works of art that were shown on the balconies early on were much more complex. The large, colorful faces in particular immediately drew the attention of all passers-by. They were recognizable from afar and aroused curiosity about everything that was still to be discovered there. There are now a whole range of these works of art and the faces inspire many!
Faces tell a story!
Nothing tells a story without words like a face! This can be seen in every portrait that people look at with fascination. The expression in the eyes, the wrinkles, scars and all other unique features make every face so special. As an artist, however, Frank added the power of color to further flesh out the characters’ faces. And he did it in an impressive way!
Anyone who knows the artist Frank Krüger also knows how positive he is about life. Therefore, it is probably the happy emotions that he lets flow into the PopArt portraits with his colors and accents. And every color used, every color combination used, makes the faces unique and special again! But of course there are also characteristics that all works of art in this series have in common. The bright red lips, for example, immediately catch the eye – and while we’re on the subject of the eyes, the glow in them can also be seen in each of the works of art.
A different kind of portrait
After Frank Krüger has painted many different portraits in the past and, above all, has immortalized many celebrities on canvas, these PopArt portraits are a completely new approach. The character is not shown as usual, but rather worked out through the colors. This makes the works of art even more interesting and, above all, offers enough space to incorporate your own interpretations.
As this text is being created and the artwork displayed in high definition on the monitor, a song from the early 90’s comes to mind. 2 Unlimited sang about “Faces” and a few lines from the song fit very well with the series of works of art that Frank is continuing this year, by the way! The song says, among other things:
“Faces
All around different faces I see
Some are happy, some in misery
They express joy and pain
No two faces are the same”
What stories do the faces tell you?
