Flamenco on Broadway – love in every brushstroke

Flamenco on Broadway - wenn Surrealismus auf Hyperrealismus trifft

Without a love for the city of New York and for art itself, a work of art like “Flamenco on Broadway” would be unthinkable. Countless hours of work have gone into this painting, carried out with great perfectionism. And despite all the attention to detail, it is a surrealistic picture that makes the impossible possible! With this work of art, Frank clearly shows that the two are not mutually exclusive!

A piece of New York in perfection!

Anyone who sees a photo from the corner of Broadway and Grand Street and then takes a look at this work of art by Frank Krüger will be surprised! The houses, the facades, even the steps of the fire escapes – everything is almost hyper-realistic by the artist. All details are worked out almost to perfection. And yet it is a surrealist work.

That becomes clear at the latest when our eyes fall on the street, where a beautiful flamenco dancer moves to the music of an Andalusian guitar player and the policeman stops the traffic and leads around her. Right next to it there is a taxi that drives upside down into the one-way street. These are all things that in New York, as extraordinary as it may be, would not be possible.

Art that is full of love

Frank Krüger’s love for the city of New York is known to many. The SoHo district, in which the “Flamenco on Broadway” theme also takes place, is one of his favorite places in the city. Formerly an artists’ quarter, today many big brands are gathered here. The artists moved on, but what remained are the beautiful house facades and the pulsating life.

Several years passed from the first brushstroke to the completion of the work of art. When looking at the details, it becomes clear why. The many windows that even show all reflections, the countless steps of the fire escape, all of this requires a lot of patience and a lot of work. So it’s easy to believe that Frank didn’t just paint while creating the artwork. Rather, he is immersed in the scenery. He heard the cars, the horns, the people talking – and in the background for weeks the song “Empire State of Mind” was played by Alicia Keys.

When one of the favorite paintings goes

Even when an artist paints paintings with the aim of selling them, it is not always easy. Frank Krüger at least found it difficult to let go of the painting at some point. The separation made it somewhat easier to know that it has now found its place with an important art collector in Germany. There it is in good company among originals by Keith Harings, Andy Warhol, autographed Picassos and other works of art by Frank. This is an environment for one’s own works that naturally also makes the artist proud.

A nice memory of the painting was also captured in the film about Frank Krüger and his art. Frank completed the work of art while recording. A moment that is always very special. Incidentally, in the film you can also see Frank riding his bike down Broadway on this very corner.

Another consolation: The work of art is of course still available as an art print in the online shop, where it is very popular with gallery customers. “Flamenco on Broadway” is also available as a high-resolution giclee print!
