Aluminium is very rarely used as the basis for artworks. Even here it becomes clear that Frank Krüger’s work is exceptional. The artist uses aluminium as the basis for many of his paintings. There are of course other artworks, such as sculptures, that are made from different materials.
Aluminium origin and production
Since Frank’s requirements are special, the plates are not available in stock. This means that the plates are produced especially for him in Valencia. These have a surface of 4×2 meter. These plates are then rolled to 2 mm and 3 mm. The rolling depends on the order intake.
Processing
The aluminium is then transported to Mallorca. In Capdepera, the panels are cut to size by the company Encinaluz and bent to the respective size. Frank has also found a professional who can still weld aluminium. Not an easy task as there are only a few people left in Mallorca who can do this. The welder is responsible for the next step, namely welding the plates.
Finally, Frank either takes the plates to the painter or grinds in the pattern that is typical for him. It always depends on the desired surface. In the last step, the aluminium is provided with a protective varnish (clear protective coating), which then protects against UV rays.
Now the basis for the artwork has been created and the artist can start painting. This looks for example like this!
