A sure instinct is required! Refined art with copper leaf or gold leaf (impact metal) requires a steady hand, a lot of concentration and, above all, patience. But the result is really beautiful and anything but ordinary!
Refined art – real handwork!
Frank Krüger is not only very creative with his art motifs, but also with many other details that make some of his works of art so special. Just the idea of painting on aluminum is anything but normal. Refining this aluminum with copper leaf and gold leaf (impact metal) is the icing on the cake. It gives many works of art a very special touch.
On a small and large scale, the work with the refinement always ensures that certain something extra in Frank’s art. Almost everyone now knows the great island sculptures that are available in different variations. But some paintings also have backgrounds made of copper leaf or metal leaf, on which the artist then worked with oil paint. The result is works of art that shimmer in the light and where the colors have a completely different effect!
Nothing works here without patience!
However, working with these materials always presents the artist with challenges. The copper leaf or imitation metal comes in wafer-thin sheets that have to be carefully transferred to the works of art. A few shaky hands is not recommended – any movement (even a deep breath) can cause the sheet to fall apart.
Placed on the surface, the wafer-thin material can then be precisely adapted to the contours and it is possible to cover even the smallest nooks and crannies with it. This does not always result in a completely smooth surface, but that is what makes the works of art so special. Because with every bump or bump, no matter how small, the light can have a completely different effect on the copper leaf or imitation metal and create beautiful effects. In this way, every island sculpture is really unique – even with the very small islands, everything is handcrafted by the artist!
