Love Games – two words, three works of art and plenty of room for your own imagination and interpretation! Only art manages to show and say so much without setting a specific direction. Rather, works of art often leave so much room for interpretation that everyone is addressed by the work in their own way. Again, only love and play are integral parts of the artwork, the rest is left to the imagination.
Love and play – how do they fit together?
“Luck in the game, bad luck in love”, “Love is a (strange/dangerous) game” or “Love is the only game in which there are two winners!” – these are all proverbs that we have probably all heard before. Each of these proverbs contains love and play as the main components and yet each of them says something different and through small modifications completely new meanings can be added.
The interpretations of the artworks Love Games I, II and III are as varied as the proverbs and their meanings. Not only that the works of art are similar in general structure and yet can be assigned completely different meanings due to the differences. They also offer a lot of scope for one’s own interpretation of the message that is to be conveyed. The artist Frank Krüger has created works that fascinate and provoke in equal measure. And that’s part of the attraction these works of art create!
Excitement is in the air
The existing elements on the works of art are actually so simple and yet special. Love is not simply represented by a high heel, but by a model from the luxury brand Louboutin. The red soles are the designer’s trademark and stand for love and passion. The shoe is placed on a chessboard that can stand for the game itself on the one hand, but perhaps also for strategy, competition and the idea that there is only black and white and nothing in between on the other side!
Other elements in Love Games I and Love Games II include gambling, which again is ambiguous and can include everything from unbridled joy to great defeat – including a great deal of risk. The rose in Love Games III, on the other hand, once again embodies love, but every rose also has its thorns. Another element full of contradiction or possibilities for interpretation. The longer you think about these works of art, the more statements come to mind. The only thing they have in common is play and love – and maybe that’s just one message: In the end it’s about fun and great feelings!
