The bulls and I – a topic about which one could probably fill entire books. At first I resisted painting bulls, but after many, many bull paintings and some really great sculptures I am now completely fascinated by the animals and also the possibilities of bringing them into focus again and again with my art. And on top of that, Taurus is also a zodiac sign, even our daughter’s zodiac sign – that makes it even better for me!
The bulls and I
Some time has passed since I painted the first bull painting at the request of my wife Laura. A time when a lot has changed. Because back then I really didn’t want to conform to the cliché of the painter on Mallorca who paints bulls. But after the first bulls were literally sold before the paint was even dry, I got to grips with the animals more intensively and over the years tried more and more.
So today all the bull paintings together would probably make a really impressive herd. Incidentally, the bull sculptures, which always amaze visitors in our galleries, are also impressive. However, I myself am also impressed by these beautiful, spirited animals and have already learned a lot about them and their character. Of course, all of this flows into my art again and again, and so new works are always created – and I always live up to my reputation as a “bull painter”!
Try bulling differently
Quite apart from the art, but connects me even more with the bulls. Or rather with the zodiac sign Taurus. Because bulls are said to have qualities that are also very important to me personally. It is said that Taurus are very confident people who always keep calm and have things under control even in stressful situations. In addition, they are very faithful and loyal people who can be counted on.
Our daughter Lara’s birthday is on Saturday, so she is Taurus – and I can say that she combines all the wonderful qualities. Maybe that’s why I’m so connected to these animals and let this fascination for them flow into my work again and again? In any case, I’m grateful to my wife Laura, who just didn’t give up until I painted the first bull. Even though neither of us had any idea at the time what was going on with that first painting that I actually wanted to give her.
