Initially, Frank Krüger did not paint bulls in his gallery. So, how come Frank and the bulls got together? His wife Laura had seen an artwork of a “Toro”, which she liked very much. With an artist by her side, she asked him if he could paint a bull for her as well. Frank did not immediately respond to this request, but Laura did not give up. She wanted to have a bull painted by Frank and at some point, he gave in to that wish. But it was not supposed to happen as planned!
The first bull
Frank was in his gallery at the port of Cala Ratjada in Mallorca and painted the bull for Laura. It was a very colourful bull, on a pink background, running towards the viewer. The painting was finished and hung up to dry. After 10 minutes, a customer entered the Galeria Frank Krüger. He saw the bull painting and bought it. The buyer had to put the work extremely carefully in his luggage space, since it hadn’t yet dried. The first bull had been sold “unintentionally”.
Laura was naturally disappointed. She hadn’t even seen the original, only a photograph of it. Frank wouldn’t be Frank if he didn’t paint Laura a new “Toro”. Said and done! But the second bull was also sold on the same day. So, it happened that Frank brought this powerful animal onto the canvas many more times.
Visit bull-farming in Salamanca
Frank and Laura then travelled with friends to Salamanca to visit the famous bull farming over there. Frank: “It is admirable to see a bull in the wild, so majestic and full of energy. It was a gigantic experience!”
The bull has a great importance in general. This animal stands for the rise of the economy, was already scratched on the walls by hell inhabitants in the Stone Age and exists as a zodiac sign.
Bullfight opponent
Frank is an absolute opponent of bullfighting. He is strictly against any kind of violence! This attitude also led to his leaving the Berlin Zoo after three years of training. The work is fascinating on the one hand, but the animals are kept in a very confined space in the zoo. There are of course divided opinions here. On the one hand, the Zoo serves the preservation of species, but on the other hand it is depressing how some animals suffer in the zoo.
Worldwide success
Frank Krüger achieved worldwide success with his bulls. Above all, there were many orders from New York. His works are generally in high demand in German-speaking countries. He creates the artworks in all possible sizes. His largest bull painting is 4 meters wide and 2 meters high!
